Early Education Program

for Hearing Impaired Children

Parents

If your baby or young child has been diagnosed with a hearing loss the Early Education Program’s “Early Support Service” is available to you. Early intervention professionals will:

listen to your concerns and answer your questions
provide information about hearing loss, hearing aids and services available
assist you with any emotional support you require at this time
put you in touch with other parents who have children with hearing loss

If your baby or young child has not been diagnosed with hearing loss but you suspect that there is a problem see a doctor to ensure there are no middle ear problems. If you are still concerned arrange a hearing test. Many children with significant hearing loss can hear environmental sounds but they need hearing aids to be able to hear speech clearly. Your Maternal & Child Health Nurse or your doctor can make the necessary referrals for your child’s hearing test.
